PostHeaderIcon Is it worth taking both A level English language and English literature at college?

english language a level

I am thinking of taking both English language and literature at sixth-form college as two separate A levels. Does anybody know if universities will actually count this choice as two separate A levels or just as one because they might see them as too similar? Would I be better off choosing the combined English option?

PostHeaderIcon Should I Do A-Level English Language?

english language a level

I really want to do english at university, but many people have told me that (no offence) like media studies it is a bit of a dodgy option to choose, like a wasted option if you know what I mean. So my question is, if I want to seriously do english does it actually matter if I do Language at A-Level or not? Will people care if I have or haven’t? Or could I spend that time doing something else (the other two options I have decided on thus far and English Lit and History)?
Thank you : )
Also I’d like to point out that I didn’t ask this question to get a grammar lesson thanks, I asked for some actual advice. Thanks to the people who are doing this, but seriously, there’s no need.

PostHeaderIcon Which A Level subjects do you need to have in order to do an English Language degree at University [UK]?

english language a level

I’m starting a sixthform college in september.

I got an A in my English Language GCSE, however I did not do so well in my Literature exam [I got a C, it was a really bad day for me and that showed in my result].

The sixth form i’m attending has very high expectations and because of the fact I did not get a high enough grade in Literature, I might not have the chance to do English Language at A level.

If this is of any importance the AS exams i am going to be taking are:
Government and Politics
History
Sociology
and
Theology [If i cannot do english language at the sixthform]

Will this effect my chances of doing English Language at University?

I haven’t decided whether or not that’s what i want to do at university, but it’s a possibility.

Thank you for your time.

RQ.
But this sixth form requires a B at English Literature GCSE as well as Language.
It’s at the top of the league table of london colleges:

so i’m not surprised that they have high entry requirements.

PostHeaderIcon Is it possible to learn English well without memorizing new Words?

learn english com

Generally speaking, to learn English well we must try hard enough to memorize new words. Then what happens? It is not how to teach one to learn it, but how hard one has to try to work it out by oneself. If a learner fails to do it, how puzzled the instructor will be.In other words, teaching is no more the same.I think, no matter how wonderful the teaching will be, if the learner refuses to try hard enough, the result will “nothing doing”.
